Wedding Day – Eight Things to Avoid

happy wedding day avoidance - 8 things to avoid on your wedding day

As you plan your wedding, you will realize there are a lot of things to do to get ready for your wedding day. That why I have created a list of eight things to avoid on your wedding day. By avoiding these things and focusing on the important wedding day activities, you will have an easy day with no additional stress.

Because as you plan, it doesn’t matter if you have a wedding planner or not; your wedding preparation will require a lot of your time and attention. That is why it’s my recommendation for all these items be completed before the big day.

1.  YOUR NAILS

Bridal nails

Do not get your nails done on the morning of your wedding day. It will take away a lot of your time and will stress you out. Get them done at least two days before your wedding day.

If for any reason you didn’t get your nails done, wear Press-On nails. No one will notice you have Press-On nails because today’s Press-On nails look just like the real deal.

2.  AVOID FACIAL TREATMENT ON WEDDING DAY

Avoid facial treatment on wedding day

Do not get facial treatment on your wedding day. To avoid any potential allergic reaction following the treatment; plus soreness or redness from the brow wax or deep tissue massage.

Because when you least expect it, the body has a way to surprise you and you might react to the product used during treatment. It’s best to be safe then, sorry. If you must have a facial treatment, get it done at least two weeks before your wedding.

3. NO BRA, NO BRA LINES

If you are wearing a strapless gown or a very sexy low-back wedding gown, do not wear any bra at least a week before your wedding day to avoid bra lines on your shoulders and back for your big day.

Sounds extreme for some, I know! But which bride wants her bra lines visible when she wears her beautiful, sexy wedding gown? None, I will say. This technique helps to avoid bra lines showing in your beautiful wedding pictures. That’s the last thing you want to see too – bra lines when you put on your beautiful wedding gown.

However, if you have a deep bra line marks on your shoulders, work with your makeup artist to come up with some quick, easy fix to make them less visible.

4.  BRIDAL MAKEUP LOOK

You need to decide your bridal makeup days in advance during your pre-wedding makeup session. Do not decide on your makeup on the day of your wedding. If you don’t have a pre-wedding makeup session already scheduled, schedule one with your makeup artist.

You need to finalize your look during your pre-wedding makeup session so you get the look you want, adjust your accessories if you need to, and avoid any last-minute decisions.

5.  AVOID PLANNING/COORDINATING ON WEDDING DAY

coordinating wedding activities

Sometimes brides find it difficult to assign responsibilities to friends and family on the big day, thus still in planning mood.

Avoid planning and coordinating your wedding day activities. While your family and friends are around you, select your trusted friend(s) or family members, and delegate tasks to them. Remember, they are there to celebrate and help you, so let them help. If you have a wedding planner, let the planner coordinate all the activities.

6.  WEDDING DAY SONGS

first dance songs

Music adds to the vibe of your wedding celebration, so don’t wait to the last minute to select the songs you want, especially for your first dance as a married couple.

Plan and get it done as soon as you book your DJ and inform the DJ accordingly so you don’t have to worry about it later. On your big day, you will not remember the songs you always wanted because you will be busy with other things.

Also, do not direct the DJ on what songs to play. Even if you gave the DJ songs list to play and he or she doesn’t do that, just go with the flow to avoid ruining your day.

7.  COORDINATING YOUR WEDDING PHOTOS

Avoid coordinating your wedding day photos. Your photographer wants to be in charge, and that’s why you hired him or she to do. If you have a wedding planner, discuss and give the wedding planner your photo list before your wedding day so that the planner can coordinate with the photographer to get all the important photos you want.

If you don’t have a wedding planner, that’s fine. Discuss and give the photographer your photo list before your wedding day. Then have a trusted friend or family member work with the photographer to get all your important photos.

8.  PRE-TIE  GELE BEFORE WEDDING DAY

Do not tie your gele (head wrap) on your wedding day. With every Nigerian wedding, the couple will change into their traditional attire during the reception, and the bride wears gele with her outfit.

If you are wearing gele, have your gele pre-tied before the wedding day. It will make your changing time faster and give you more time to get back to your reception.

I wish you all the best with your planning & marriage! Cheers!
