The Queen Idia Collection by Agbons-GL is the latest traditional wedding bridal style for Edo brides-to-be. Released in mid 2024, the designer blends classic Edo bridal style with modern fashion to create this stunning collection.
An Edo bridal look is an embodiment of timeless elegance, cultural pride, and intricate artistry. According to the designer, the Queen Idia collection is a pure luxury display of Edo bridal attire. This collection, named after Benin’s great Queen Idia (mother of Oba Esigie), celebrates the rich Edo culture and their style.
For the first look in this collection, as seen below, the designer and her team spent three months to create the masterpiece that was hand-beaded to perfection with over 60,000 crystal beads and Swarovski gold stones. Also, the other looks in the collection took three to four months to complete because of the intricate hand beading needed for the designs. The designer describes one of the design processes as…
“I call this dress the ice dress. The dress was made with over 30000 tiny crystal beads and 6000 crystal droplets and Swarovski stones. Each bead was hand-beaded with love. The jacket was made with over 200 yards of tulle cut out into smaller size to create each petal; each petal was hand stitched with love. Production of this took a total of 4 months.”
A typical Edo bride wears a richly adorned, colorful gown fashioned from fine fabrics such as lace, silk, or velvet. The dress is often form-fitting, designed to accentuate the bride’s shape perfectly, with intricate beadwork and embellishments sewn into the fabric. Which exuding an air of regal elegance and reflect the wealth and prestige of the Edo culture.
All the looks in this collection are breathtaking! So future Edo brides-to-be, if you are planning your traditional wedding and looking for style inspiration for your looks, the Queen Idia Collection is for you! Check out more of the collection below.
